Blitz Nutrition - Jen’s story

At Blitz our aim is to get our members stronger and fitter. We believe that a big part of that comes from proper nutrition, which is why we launched our 8-week Nutrition Kickstart Challenge this year.

Member Jen took part in the challenge at the start of 2024, and we recently caught up with her to find out how re-focusing on her nutrition over the course of this year has positively impacted her life.

What’s your name and how long have you been a member at Blitz?

Hi! I'm Jen and I've been at Blitz since the start of 2023

Why did you originally get involved in the Blitz Nutrition challenge?

About 3.5 years ago I moved from working in a lab in central London to an office job with a driving commute, taking my steps from around 18,000 a day to around 6,000 a day. That huge change in daily activity, alongside a post COVID YOLO attitude to drinking and eating meant that my weight had slowly crept up.

I was 10kg more than I was at the start of the pandemic and my self-confidence was rubbish. The 8-week Nutrition Challenge seemed like a great idea to get a kick-start on losing some weight.

What changes have you noticed in yourself since you first started making changes to your nutrition?

I'm feeling way more confident now compared with the start of the year. I used to shrink into myself, now I feel I hold myself a little differently. Most importantly I feel like myself again.

However, I would say for those wanting to start a long nutrition journey, it took a good 6 months of progress before other people really started to notice! It made me realise that people don’t notice or judge your weight half as much as you think. This journey is yours to do for yourself.

Has making changes to your nutrition helped in your training?

One of the best things about the Blitz Nutrition Challenge is that it's specifically tailored to support your training, so you feel fuelled for classes rather than “being on a diet”.

It isn't just about cutting (or adding!) calories but eating the right things, drinking enough water (a lot more than you think) and getting the right amount of sleep. Each stage of the challenge helps you put all these pieces together so that you feel great when you're at Blitz (and in normal life)!

Has the challenge helped you in your daily life?

Having my nutrition ingrained in my habits has taken a weight off my shoulders, freeing up time and reducing stress. Also that feeling of being “in control” gives me a clear mind to focus on more important things!

What advice would you give to someone thinking about doing the Blitz Nutrition Challenge?

I think it's awesome that Blitz puts this on and I think anyone who needs to know more about nutrition, or anyone who just needs a supportive community around them, should think about giving it a go!
