December Member of the month // Simone Sunman

How did you first get involved with Blitz?

I have always enjoyed fitness, and had spent a few years at a Gymbox in central London. Whilst they had lots of different classes on offer, the programming never changed and so I was frustrated with not seeing any real progress in my strength. In early 2020 Adam encouraged me to come to a Bring a Friend class, and he was not impressed with having to keep up with me in the partner workout! From there I never looked back.

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?

We have had a lot of fun at the Blitz birthday comps, and Friday night lights during the Open, but I don't know if anything is more memorable than 21.1 - the wall walk WOD we all attempted at home on Zoom with the gym. I don't think I will ever forget how slippy the kitchen floor was, how worried I was about getting the walls dirty, or how close I felt to breaking my neck (along with the pressure of not being able to stop because everyone was watching you on camera!). That was potentially the longest 15 minutes of my life.

What is your favourite movement/workout?

I am a cardio bunny at heart and so I never really mind when there are burpees on the menu!

What is your least favourite movement/workout?

Thrusters and I just do not get on, I hate them and they hate me - give me 100 burpees any day!

Name a CrossFit goal you hope to achieve by the end of this year?

Given it is December I will not set myself up for failure with wild goals for this month, but I am proud to have managed to get my first pull ups this year. Over the next 12 months I hope to work on my barbell strength, and maybe one day I will be able to link my toes to bar!

What do you do when you’re not training at Blitz?

You can usually find me out walking our pomeranian Alfie, silly dancing in the kitchen or talking about how much I need to stretch without ever actually stretching. I also spend 40 hours a week working in Supply Chain for an AI start up.

What is your favourite part of being a Blitz member?

Nothing original here - it really is all about the amazing community at Blitz!

If you could give a new member one piece of advice what would it be?

Joining Crossfit can be daunting, however it truly is a sport for all abilities and no one is judging you. Blitz is an open community with a "we are all in this together" mindset and people are there to celebrate your achievements and to help you better yourself.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself….

In a past life I studied professional dance at uni! I was an assistant choreographer for a number of musicals in Ireland while studying, and even ran my own dance school for kids and adults.
