How did you first get involved with Blitz?

I first heard about it through friends who were members and so decided to do a trial class. Prior to Blitz I was a casual gym user but found working out to be pretty monotonous. As a result I often ended up getting distracted with my itunes playlist as well as conversations with other gym users. The structured environment and fun varied workouts that Blitz offered were just what I needed1

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?

Probably my first Open.. I think a year or two ago ?  I’d envisaged the atmosphere being like a Sunday morning 101 Class so was surprised when it felt like I’d just walked into a Boxing match. It was terrific to experience such a supportive atmosphere for what was a gruelling workout with lots of wall walks and Box jumps. I know a few of us newbies to the open were seeing stars after doing that one.  Everyone showed great heart!

What is your favourite movement/workout?

I feel like I’ve bonded quite well with the bike and rower.. it’s always nice to be able to monitor your output and adjust the dials accordingly. Sadly the chemistry is not there yet with the Ski Erg.. it always feels like I’m putting far more in than it’s giving me back.   I also enjoy the pull up bar and my favourite work out is probably Annie.

What is your least favourite movement/workout?

Thrusters.. with a name like that you would think they would be more fun! They really get the lactate going and make the legs feel like lead. Dumbell thrusters are more awkward as I find it hard to get them sitting comfortably on the shoulders. Pistol Squats are another really tough one that I have to scale.

Name a CF goal you hope to achieve by the end of this year?

I’d love to be comfortable doing a strict ring muscle up.. I’ve done one once but it was just a flash in the pan. It might be tight to get there with the year end closing in but we’ll give it a shot! Certainly a bit of work still needs to be done on mobility.

What do you do when you’re not training at Blitz?

I co-run a small business and I love to act when opportunities arise. My boys Jesse and Leo also keep me pretty busy and active! I love to eat.. particularly sweet things. Banking calories at Blitz has allowed me to indulge alot more. Life is for living right!

What is your favourite part of being a Blitz Member?

Without doubt it’s the people, both members and coaches.  I love the positive energy I feel when I walk in the door and love chatting to everyone, be it  about life in general or Crossfit movements. The vibe is a great blend of encouraging hard work but also remembering to have fun!

If you could give a new member one piece of advice- what would it be?

If not naturally flexible then work on your mobility!  It’s an area I neglected when I first started and I have found making small improvements has helped a lot.   Being able to get in good positions more easily just helps with the overall flow of any WOD and reduces the risk of injury.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself…

I’ve had a book published  “Out of the Box – the highs and lows of a champion smuggler.”  It’s a remarkable true story of Commonwealth Games athlete Reg Spiers, who upon finding himself penniless in Twickenham during the 60s, had my father build him a Wooden box and mail him home from the the UK to Australia – Cash on Delivery.
