How did you first get involved with Blitz?
I joined Blitz in the spring of 2023 after a few years away from regular exercise. I used to be an avid runner and, back in 2018, I had trained hard and raised money for charity to run the London Marathon. Unfortunately, just a week before the race, I came down with appendicitis and had to have it removed—missing the event entirely. That setback knocked my motivation, and I drifted away from fitness. With Blitz practically on my doorstep, when I was ready to get back into exercising I decided to give it a try —and I was instantly hooked. Since then, I haven’t looked back.
What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?
There have been so many highlights — hitting my first muscle-ups, getting the hang of toes-to-bar, and a recent PB on my squat snatch all stand out. Competitions have also been especially memorable, particularly my first CrossFit Open earlier this year. It was a great experience... though I’m happy enough that it only comes around once a year!
What is your favourite movement/workout?
I enjoy a longer, more varied workout, something with a mix of gymnastics, cardio and barbell.
What is your least favourite movement/workout?
Any kind of weighted lunge!
Name a CrossFit goal you hope to achieve by the end of this year
I wouldn’t say no to any new PBs: deadlift/squat/clean & jerk/snatch!
What do you do when you’re not training at Blitz?
Outside of work and Blitz, I have a toddler and dog so can often be found with one or both of them about Twickenham, in one of the local parks or cafes. Radnor Gardens is a good spot, with a great café and a kids' playground—it also has the added bonus of a pull-up bar, in case I ever feel the urge to show off a few muscle-ups.
What is your favourite part of being a Blitz member?
I mostly work from home so I often go to lunchtime classes. Blitz is the perfect way to get a bit of respite from both the stress and monotony of the working day. The classes always have a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere, and the community is fantastic—it’s a genuinely enjoyable escape from the daily grind. Most mornings, I catch myself clock-watching, counting down to when I can sneak away for that hour!
If you could give a new member one piece of advice what would it be?
I would say, stay consistent and listen to the coaches, you will soon surprise yourself with what you can do!
Tell us a fun fact about yourself….
Even though I never managed to run the London marathon, I have run the marathon du medoc three times. It takes you through vineyards in the south of France with around 20 wine tasting stops along the route. Definitely not the race to chase a personal best—but easily the most enjoyable!
