How did you first get involved with Blitz?

I had been training pretty regularly for about a year at another gym but didn’t feel I was getting much fitter or stronger.  Then I watched a documentary about the CrossFit Games, went straight online and booked my trial at Blitz.

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?

My most memorable moment is getting my first bar muscle up.  I had a brief “pep talk” from Pat before a class one day and I walked up to the rig and did one!  Luckily Mark filmed that one, as I then failed my next 20 attempts!

What is your favourite movement/workout?

This is difficult as a once hated movement can easily become your favourite when it clicks.  My current favourite movements are Wall Walks, or maybe Double Unders just as I’ve started to put a few larger sets together.  My favourite workout is Grettel because it was the first WOD I ever did, and the second time I did it I had improved so much.

What is your least favourite movement/workout?

Overhead squats!

Name a CrossFit goal you hope to achieve by the end of this year?

I would love to nail Butterfly pull-ups. But realistically, improving my engine and consistency over longer workouts is my goal.  All too often I’m the first to get scooped up by the struggle bus!

What do you do when you’re not training at Blitz?

Spend time with the family,  I have an 18 year old daughter Grace who’s just passed her driving test.  And a 4 year old son Bernard who keeps me and my wonderful wife very busy!

What is your favourite part of being a Blitz member?

When a new T-shirt or hoody gets released….or Graeme’s face when the dumbbells don’t go back properly! No seriously, I know everyone says the community and that is a fantastic part of it, such an eclectic mix of members all at different points on the same journey helping and encouraging one another.  But for me, it’s the coaches - they are all amazing in their own way.

If you could give a new member one piece of advice what would it be?

Pace yourself, both during workouts and with your overall progress.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself….

I’ve watched the Sopranos from start to finish eleven times!
