February Member of the month // Laura O’Hagan

How did you first get involved with Blitz?

I dabbled in CrossFit for a few years at my previous gym but I mostly stuck to my comfort zone of running and cardio workouts (think Blitzfit classes 5 times a week). When it closed its doors I moved to Blitz and that’s when I really got the CrossFit bug. 

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?

My first CrossFit Open in 2023, the WOD included max pull-ups for the remaining time. I had a full 7 minutes left and managed just one pull-up but I was so proud of myself. I vividly remember Trish standing beside me, encouraging me, and everyone on the sidelines cheering me on. 

What is your favourite movement/workout?

I love benchmark Girl WOD “Kelly”- legs, legs and more legs! Unpopular opinion but I love wall balls and double unders are my jam.

What is your least favourite movement/workout?

Push ups, and any gymnastic movements which involve being upside down and on my hands - I’m petrified!

Name a CrossFit goal you hope to achieve by the end of this year?

Just one handstand push up one time would be lovely.

What do you do when you’re not training at Blitz?

I’m a creature of habit, so my weekends follow a familiar pattern. Exploring new coffee shops, eating almond croissants and reading a Marian Keyes novel. I’m passionate about food and travel, so I make it a point to squeeze in as many foodie city breaks as possible.

What is your favourite part of being a Blitz member?

My 5:30 crew!! (Hi, guys!) I honestly look forward to seeing them every evening. We motivate each other whilst also keeping it real with the occasional reality check. I also love how Blitz has had such a positive impact on other areas of my life, like my food choices and how I spend my weekends.

If you could give a new member one piece of advice what would it be?

Just keep coming to the classes and speaking to people. As a newbie it sometimes feels like everyone might already have their friends but we’re such a welcoming group, just smile and introduce yourself.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself….

I’m in my wedding era! 10 years after we first met, Lewis and I are tying the knot this Christmas.
