How did you first get involved with Blitz?

I’ve known about, and had a good impression of, Blitz for years now! I can’t remember the first time I clocked Blitz - maybe at a UK competition, regionals or on the open leaderboard…?

When my family and I were moving to this area at the end of 2023 I joined pretty much as soon as we’d unpacked. An easy decision and one I’m very glad I made.

Having CrossFitted for ages now, it’s important to find a Box that is focussed on the right things - community & coaching. The ‘Vibe’ has got to be right and it most definitely is at Blitz!

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?

My best memories are of CrossFitting with the people I’ve met along the way - cheesy but true! I’ve made life-long friends in CrossFit and I can see that happening at Blitz too…

There’s also something brilliant about the shared suffering of a competition, whether that’s the open, a Box-comp, or one wider afield - recently I did Turf Games, which was great (Love to Team’ Blitzkrieg’!)

A couple stand out:

⁃ My first official CrossFit workout in a CrossFit gym where I did the classic 500m row, 40 air squats, 30 sit-ups, 20 push-ups and 10 pull-ups then felt sick and shaky for the rest of the day …didn’t stop me though!

⁃ Snatching 90kg was something I was very proud of and remember very clearly!

What is your favourite movement/workout?

Got to love a power clean! Or a snatch when it’s feeling snappy and in the groove. I quite like a wall ball so a good workout for me is ‘Karen’ (it’s also my Wife’s name!)

What is your least favourite movement/workout?

Wall Walks - enough said. Bleurgh. I just know they’ll appear in this year’s open and I am not up for them at all! (…that’s the spirit…)

Name a CrossFit goal you hope to achieve by the end of this year

I’d like to snatch 80kg+ and 110kg+ C&J, and get my bar muscle-ups back. I’d also like to consistently come 3 times a week (keep me accountable, coaches!)

What do you do when you’re not training at Blitz?

I hang out with my family - my wife, Karen, and our Son, George, who’s around 2.5. Having a child is amazing but brutal sometimes and the hardest and best thing I’ve ever done. Karen is a Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeon and even busier than me so good quality family time is such a priority. We make sure to help each other train too - very grateful for that!

What is your favourite part of being a Blitz member?

Easy - the people. I look forward to coming in because I get to chat rubbish and muck around with good people. The fact that I also get a sweat on and try to get a bit better at some element of Crossfit is a bonus.

If you could give a new member one piece of advice what would it be?

Leave your ego at the door. I think that results in you listening, focusing on technique and being patient which will get you progressing faster than you think.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself….

I’ve “no-repped” Sam Briggs - absolutely terrifying but she took it remarkably well!
