March Member of the Month // Conta Henderson
How did you first get involved at Blitz?
Had to bribe a friend to join me on one of the taster sessions with the promise I’d buy her breakfast afterwards – difficult to imagine now, but initially the thought of CrossFit and Blitz was quite scary! I was completely sold, signed up to the Foundations workshop a few weeks later and haven’t looked back.
What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?
Lots of great memories – PBs and bigger social WODS, always such a good atmosphere. Most recently 23.1 – did my first toes to bar 5 mins before the workout, then got talked in to trying RX – managed to get through them mostly unscathed (my hands are still recovering). Thanks to Trish (for the grips too!), Tim, Ash, Robbie and Mark for the encouragement honestly not a chance I would have done it without you being there!
What is your favourite movement/workout?
The less technical stuff! Squats/ cleans/ lunges/ bike/ running/ burpees – slow burners you have to chip away at, or a 1RM PB are quite satisfying.
What is your least favourite movement/workout?
Annie – Double-unders and sit ups – awful.
Name a CrossFit goal you hope to achieve by the end of this year?
Any form of pull up! Getting my Double-unders more consistent and if we’re really wishing for things a handstand push up would be the dream.
What do you do when you’re not training at Blitz?
If not working, then seeing friends mostly. Walking Oggy, our dog, or watching some sort of sport… possibly/ probably in the pub or ideally at Twickenham/ Murrayfield/ Wimbledon live. Love a holiday and travelling too.
What is your favourite part of being a Blitz member?
Think everyone says this but for sure the coaches and community you’ve built. I’ve been working remotely since pre Covid, so seeing all of your smiling faces is a really good addition to the day. As a newbie to CrossFit it’s been a fab community to join. Always surprises me what’s possible with a bit of encouragement from the coaches and members cheering you on.
If you could give a new member one piece of advice what would it be?
Throw yourself in to it – you’ve got fantastic coaches that will support and guide you in the right and safe way, and a community that makes sure you keep coming back.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself….
I’ve represented my country at sport (I usually fail to mention 1. I’m Scottish, 2. The sport was rounders – still counts though, right?)
